POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist women's lacrosse cruised to a 15-11 victory over the preseason favorite Monmouth Hawks on Friday evening.
Kelly George had seven points, accounting for nearly half the teams 15 goals, helping lead the Red Foxes to the win.
With the victory, Marist improves to 2-0 (2-0 MAAC) on the season, while Monmouth falls to 0-2 (0-2 MAAC) with the loss.
- Samantha Mehalick opened the scoring just one minute into the game to put the Red Foxes up 1-0.
- Monmouth's Nicole Ceraso answered two minutes later to tie the game at the 26:12 mark. This sparked a 3-0 Monmouth run over the course of three minutes to put the Hawks in front 3-1 with 23 minutes remaining in the first half.
- Marist used a 3-0 run of their own to take a 5-4 lead with 8:14 left in the first half. Then after Monmouth briefly tied the game at five, the Red Foxes went on another 3-0 run to close the first half with a 8-5 lead.
- The Red Foxes kept the momentum going into the second half, as Isabelle Stockman connected on her first goal of the season to put Marist in front 9-5.
- After the two teams exchanged a pair of goals, Melissa Bucher scored her first goal of the season roughly halfway through the second period putting Marist in front 11-8.
- Just a minute later, Taylor Emmel found the back of the net for Monmouth to cut Marist's lead to two, but Delaney Galvin would not let up another Monmouth goal until there was just a minute left on the game clock.
- The Red Foxes scored four more goals in that span, and wound up with a 15-11 victory.
- George had a game-high seven points, including a hat trick and four assists.
- Mehalick also netted another hat trick, while six other Red Foxes found the back of the net.
- Nicole Ceraso and Allison Turturro each had three goals to pace the Hawks.
- Monmouth outshot Marist 34-31, but shots on goal were even 24-24.
- The Red Foxes were 23-25 in clear attempts, and the Hawks were 14-15.
- Galvin added 13 more saves in her second victory of the season.
- George is now four assists from taking over sole possession of fourth place on Marist's all-time assists list.
- Romy Villemure's four caused turnovers were a career-high for the senior defender.
- Maddie Schrader and Melissa Bucher each notched their first career goals late in the fourth quarter.
- In Camryn Stoner's first career game, she collected a career-high two draw controls, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls.

Marist will hit the road for a back-to-back set against Canisius next weekend. The Red Foxes will play the Golden Griffins on Friday and Saturday, with both games set to begin at 4 p.m.
