Women’s Lacrosse Faces Monmouth, Volleyball Has Doubleheader Against Rider

Editor's Note: For the remainder of the spring semester, Marist Athletics will be releasing weekly previews that highlight/breakdown every programs' games for the upcoming week. 
 
POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Two Marist teams return to action this weekend. The women's lacrosse team is scheduled to take on Monmouth today at 7 p.m. The volleyball team has a doubleheader against Rider scheduled for Sunday, Mar. 14.
 
A breakdown of each matchup can be found below.
 
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
  • The Red Foxes are scheduled to take on the Monmouth Hawks at Tenney Stadium on Friday, Mar. 12. First draw is scheduled for 7 p.m.
  • Last time out, Marist defeated Manhattan 9-7 in the 2021 season opener to move to 1-0 on the season. Samantha Mehalick and Kerri Gutenberger each had hat tricks, and Delaney Galvin made 15 saves.
  • The Hawks also opened the season 1-0, defeating Iona 15-3 last weekend. Allison Turturro scored a game-high six goals, and added eight draw controls and three ground balls.
  • Monmouth was projected to finish atop the MAAC in this year's preseason poll, while Nicole Ceraso was picked as the Preseason Player of the Year. Caroline Bleck, Rachel Mills, Gina Verrone, along with Ceraso and Turturro were all named Preseason All-MAAC.

VOLLEYBALL
  • Marist is set to take on Rider in a doubleheader on Sunday, Mar. 14. First serve of game one is set for noon, and the second match of the day is tentatively set for 4 p.m. It will take place roughly two hours and 30 minutes following the first match.
  • The Red Foxes opened the season last Sunday against Iona, dropping both matches of a doubleheader to open the season 0-2.
  • Freshman Jordan Newblatt shined in the losses, notching her first career double-double in game one with 16 kills and 16 digs. She followed that up in the second match with eight more kills and 12 digs.
  • Rider opened the season last weekend with a doubleheader against defending champion Fairfield. Rider lost both matches, falling to 0-2 on the season. Senior Ali Ward combined for 28 kills on the day.
  • The Broncs were projected third in this year's MAAC preseason poll, just above Marist's fourth place projection. Morgan Romano, last year's MAAC Rookie of the Year, was picked to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
