POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist baseball team swept a doubleheader against the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Sunday afternoon. The Red Fox bats showed up big time in there third and fourth games of the season, blasting a combined five homers and scoring 22 total runs on the day. Marist defeated the Peacocks 9-1 in the first game of the day, then won 13-2 in game two.
With the sweep, Marist's record improves to 3-1 on the season, while Saint Peter's record drops to 2-6.
Marist 9, Saint Peter's 1 (7 innings)

- The Red Foxes struck first in the top of the first inning. Ben McNeill and Tyler Kapuscinksi cracked back-to-back singles to lead off the game, and Brian Hart drove in McNeill with an RBI single to put Marist in front 1-0.
- Saint Peter's answered with a run in the bottom of the first after a lead-off triple from Andrew Connor and an RBI single from Sam Delcollo.
- McNeil drive in Marist's second run of the game in the top of the second inning with a single to center that scored Matt Rubayo.
- Two batters later in the second inning, after Tyler Kapuscinski was drilled by a pitch, Robbie Armitage smashed a three-run homer to center to put Marist in front 5-1.
- Marist tacked on two more insurance runs in the top of the third from RBIs by Justin Kapuscinski and Rubayo.
- After allowing the RBI single in the first inning, Erubiel Candelario settled down and only allowed two hits over the next 4.2 innings pitched. The Red Foxes led 7-1 after five innings.
- Brian Yetter came into the game in the sixth and struck out the side in his first appearance as a Red Fox.
- Marist tacked on two more runs in the seventh, and went on to win 9-1.

- Marist struck first again, this time in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Matt Rubayo and a steal of home by Reece Armitage, to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Peacocks scored a run in both the second and third innings, and tied up the score at 2-2 which would remain the tally until the top of the fifth.
- Rubayo put the Red Foxes in front with his first homer of the season, a solo-shot, in the top of the fifth.
- Robbie Armitage connected on his second homer of the afternoon in the seventh inning, this time of the three-run variety, increasing Marist's lead to 6-2.
- After Saint Peter's plated a run in the bottom of the seventh, the Red Foxes broke open the game in the eighth. It started with a Niko Amory two-run blast which made the score 8-3 in favor of the Red Foxes.
- After a couple more runs came into score in the top of the eighth, Rubayo capped the onslaught hit his second home run of the game to increase Marist's lead to 10.
- The Peacocks went scoreless in the bottom of the frame, making it a final score of 13-3 in eight innings.
- Cardona held the Peacocks to just one earned run in five innings in his first start of the season in game one. He allowed just four hits and struck out eight.
- Pansini finished game two having thrown five innings and allowing just two earned runs with three strikeouts.
- Jack Keenan started game two for Marist, and pitched 4.1 innings, gave up only two earned runs, and struck out eight.
- The Red Fox bullpen, which consisted of Yetter, Conor McNamara, and Will Van Beusekom, combined for 5.2 innings on the day and allowed no earned runs and k'd 12.
- Robbie Armitage and Matt Rubayo both had six RBIs on the day.
- Six different Marist players had multi-hit games throughout the day. Ben McNeill was the only one to do it in both games.
- Candelario's 10 strikeouts in game one were a career-high, which was previously eight.
- Keenan's eight strikeouts in game two bested his previous career-high of tow.
- Robbie Armitage's homer in game one was the 11th of his career, and the first one of the season for any Red Fox. His homer in game two was his 12th.
- Matt Rubayo had two homers in his four-year career prior to today. He had two homers in the second game.
- Amory's homer in game two was just the second of his career.
- Yetter had five total strikeouts in game one, all of which were the first in his Marist tenure.
Marist will return to Poughkeepsie for its 2021 home opener on Wednesday, April 21 against the Siena Saints. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at Noon at McCann Field.
