POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist softball team swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader against Saint Peter's on Tuesday afternoon at home on Senior Day.
The Red Foxes took game one after
Kaley Coltrain's two-run home run in the sixth inning gave Marist an 8-6 lead that they would hold for good.
Calista Phippen then shut down the Peacocks in the final two innings to secure the victory. In game two, Coltrain's three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh gave Marist a 6-4 walk-off victory.

Marist 8, Saint Peter's 6 - W: Calista Phippen (6-5), L: Christina Colon (1-7)
- Saint Peter's Brandi Fenney grounded a ball through the left side and drove in two runs to give the Peacocks a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
- The Peacocks would later add another run off of a sacrifice ground out from Sophie Wilson that scored Fenney from third, giving the Peacocks an early 3-0 advantage.
- Caroline Baratta drew a walk to lead off the first inning for the Red Foxes. She advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt from Sam Freeland, then to third on a wild pitch. Kaley Coltrain would also draw a walk and have Hannah Brock come in to pinch run. Brock then stole second to put runners on second and third with one out in the inning.
- Ali Milam stepped in and slammed a ball off the wall in deep center field scoring Baratta from third to put the Red Foxes on the board. Milam was later caught stealing second, allowing Brock to score from third base, cutting the Peacocks' lead down to 3-2.
- Freeland recorded an infield single to begin the third inning and later stole second base. Milam then reached second base via an error on the throw from the second baseman, allowing Freeland to score to tie the game 3-3. Shea Walsh then singled and then stole second, putting runners on second and third with one out in the inning.
- Blarr lined a ball into left field, scoring Milam, giving the Red Foxes the lead. Morgan Gianelle pinch ran for Blarr and was caught stealing second base as Walsh scored from third, extending the Red Foxes' lead to 5-3 at the end of the third inning.
- The Peacocks came back in the fifth inning starting with an RBI single into left field from Feeney. On the very next play, Wilson grounded out to shortstop, allowing Olyvia Smith to score from third to tie the game, 5-5. Saint Peter's secured a 6-5 lead with two outs in the inning when Cara McNulty grounded a ball into left field, scoring Feeney.
- Miah McDonald pinch hit to begin the bottom half of the sixth inning for the Red Foxes and started the inning off with a leadoff single to right field. Caroline Baratta then hit a hard line drive to third to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a double steal positioned runners at second and third, Sam Freeland grounded out to shortstop, scoring Milam from third to tie the game 6-6.
- With one on base and one out, Kaley Coltrain came in clutch as she belted a two-run home run to left center field to give the Red Foxes a 8-6 lead late in the sixth. Calista Phippen closed out the game with a 1-2-3 seventh to give the Red Foxes an 8-6 win in game one.
Marist 6, Saint Peter's 4 - W: Calista Phippen (7-5), L: Kristen Brennan (0-3)
- Caroline Baratta started game two with a leadoff single grounded straight up the middle into center field. Sam Freeland followed up with her own single grounded into center field. A fielding error allowed the runners to advance to second and third. Ali Milam then lined a ball into left field, scoring Baratta from third, giving the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead early in the contest.
- Megan Davis started the second inning off with a leadoff home run slammed into left field on the first pitch of the inning, increasing the Red Foxes' lead to 2-0.
- The Peacocks rallied in the fourth inning, tying the game 2-2 via a sacrifice fly from Brandi Feeney that scored one run and an RBI single into center field from Sophie Wilson.
- After Saint Peter's Madison Simone recorded a walk with one out in the fifth inning, Katie Sciglimpaglia slammed a two-run home run into dead center field to give the Peacocks a 4-2 lead.
- On the first pitch of the bottom of the fifth inning, Caroline Baratta belted a home run into right-center field, cutting the Peacock's lead to one.
- Down to their last two outs of the game, Baratta walked in a six-pitch at-bat, then Freeland singled to put runners on first and second. With a 2-2 count, Coltrain slammed a ball into straight away center for a three-run walk off home run to win the game 6-4 for the Red Foxes, completing the sweep.
- Kaley Coltrain's home runs were her seventh and eighth of the season, giving her a new career high.
- In her last 12 games, Coltrain is hitting .571 (20-for-35) with seven homers and 21 RBIs.
- Caroline Baratta and Sam Freeland led the team with two hits each in game one.
- Meghan Davis' home run in the second inning of game two was the second of her career. Her first home run also came against Saint Peter's on April 30.
- Caroline Baratta's solo home run in game two was her third of the season.
- Calista Phippen struck out seven batters in game two.
- This is the first time in Phippen's collegiate career that she has won two games on the same day. She pitched 10 innings on the day, which is also a single-day collegiate best for her.
- Phippen now has 30 career victories, which is tied for ninth place on Marist's all-time wins list.
The Red Foxes will head up to Loudonville, New York for their regular-season finale against the Siena Saints on Wednesday. The teams will play two games, with first pitch of game one set for 2 p.m.
