TUCSON, Arizona – The Marist volleyball team dropped the finale of the Cactus Classic in three sets to New Mexico State on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Foxes wrapped up play in Tucson with a 1-2 record, including an impressive five-set victory over UCSD last night.
- Gabby Murray picked up the Red Foxes first kill of the match early in set one.
- New Mexico State led 6-4, then went on a 4-0 run to take a 10-4 lead and did not look back. The Aggies went on to win the set 25-16.
- Set two was much of the same, and New Mexico State won by an identical score of 25-16.
- The Aggies kept the foot on the gas in set three, and went on to win 25-13 and win the match 3-0.
- Waumans led Marist with nine kills in the match.
- McKinley Fox fell one dig short of another double-double, totaling 23 assists and nine digs.
- Morgan Owens had 10 digs to lead the Red Foxes.
- Murray had six kills on a stellar .400 hitting percentage.
- Victoria Barrett led the Aggies with 10 kills and 11 digs.
- New Mexico State hit .425 in the match while Marist hit just .118.
The Red Foxes return to Poughkeepsie for their home opener on Tuesday, August 31 against Albany. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at McCann Arena. Be sure to come out and show your support.
