POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team's season opener at Georgetown on Saturday, Sept. 4 has been canceled. The Georgetown football team had a Covid-related pause during training camp which affected preseason preparations and conditioning.
"We respect Georgetown's decision," Marist Director of Athletics
Tim Murray said. "We empathize with our athletes and coaches who we know wanted to compete badly. We wish the Georgetown athletes and coaches the very best as we all continue to navigate the challenges created by COVID-19. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Georgetown in future years."
Marist and Georgetown have met in football 22 times, a rivalry that dates back to 1994.
Marist's next scheduled game is Saturday, Sept. 18 at Columbia.
