EDISON, New Jersey – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced three weekly award recipients for the Marist volleyball program on Tuesday afternoon. Senior outside hitter Madelyn Waumans was named Player of the Week, senior defensive specialist Morgan Owens was tabbed as Libero of the Week, and freshman libero Jillian Hanna was selected as the Co-Rookie of the Week.
 
Owens wins Libero of the Week for the second time this season, and the third time of her career. She previously captured the honor on August 31st. Waumans and Hanna collect their first-ever MAAC weekly awards.
 
Waumans enjoyed a spectacular weekend at the George Mason Invitational, tallying 55 kills on a .283 hitting percentage in those three matches as Marist picked up wins against Morgan State and Robert Morris. The senior didn't hit below .200 in any of those three games, setting career-highs with a 24-kill, 20-dig performance against the Colonials. In total, the California native notched 40 digs in the tournament, and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Overall, in four matches last week, she earned 63.5 points in 17 total sets.
 
Owens shined in four matches last week, recording 78 digs as Marist beat Morgan State and Robert Morris in the George Mason Invitational. Against Seton Hall on September 7th, she totaled a week-high 26 digs while chipping in two service aces. She registered 21 and 20 digs against the Bears and Colonials, respectively. In the invitational finale against UNCG, she notched 11 digs without any receiving or serving errors. In total, the Virginia native averaged 4.33 digs in all 18 sets Marist played.
 
Hanna was steady for Marist in its four matches last week, which included wins against Morgan State and Robert Morris. The freshman totaled 35 digs, which featured a career-best 19 vs. the Colonials in a five-set victory. In the final two matches against Robert Morris and UNCG, she was also perfect on serves, recording four aces as well.
 
The Red Foxes set new milestones in the weekly award department for their efforts:

• The last Rookie of the Week: Jordan Newblatt (3/12/21)
• The last Player of the Week: Megan Fergus (11/19/19)
• The last instance Marist won multiple MAAC weekly awards: Fergus and Sophia Theriot on 10/22/19. This is the fourth time in the last six years Marist won multiple awards in the same week. The other three occurred in 2019.
• The last time Marist won all three MAAC weekly awards: September 7th, 2004 - Sally Hanson (Co-Offensive Player of the Week), Katie Lux (Defensive Player of the Week), and Christy Lukes (MAAC Rookie of the Week).

 
Marist closed non-conference play in 2021 with a 5-6 record, notching two wins in the Harvard and George Mason invitationals. The Red Foxes open their MAAC slate in Western New York, visiting Niagara on Saturday, September 18th at 1 p.m. and Canisius the following day at Noon.
