BUFFALO, New York – The Marist volleyball team fell to Canisius on Sunday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match, 3-1 (25-20, 25-16, 21-25, 25-19).
It was the Red Foxes' fifth consecutive road match after visiting Niagara yesterday, and playing three matches last weekend in the George Mason Invitational.
- Canisius got off to a hot start with four Golden Griffins notching kills as the home team took a 10-6 lead in the first set.
- Marist closed the gap with three straight points, forcing Canisius to call a timeout with the Red Foxes trailing, 21-18.
- McKinley Fox's 15 assists proved effective in the first set, but in the end Canisius took set one by a score of 25-20.
- The first half of the second set went back-and-forth, but six straight Canisius points gave the Golden Griffins an 18-12 lead. Canisius clinched back-to-back set victories with a set two final score of 25-16.
- Madelyn Waumans and Gabriella Heimbauer continued to push the tempo for Marist's offense in the third set with the two combining for 22 kills across three sets.
- Trailing 18-16 in the third set, the Red Foxes reeled off four straight points to take the lead. After Canisius tied it at 20, Marist scored three more in a row and prevailed 25-21 to keep the match going.
- In the fourth set, Marist found themselves at the hands of a 5-0 run by Canisius early on, and the Red Foxes never led in the set after that.
- The Red Foxes fended off three match points, but Canisius prevailed 25-19 in the fourth set to earn a 3-1 victory in the match.
- The Red Foxes now find themselves at 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the MAAC.
- Canisius moves to 2-9 on the season and 2-0 in conference.
- Marist will return to McCann Arena on Saturday against Manhattan.
- First serve will commence at noon.
- It will be the first of three straight home matches for the Red Foxes.
