POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – In the second of a three-match homestand, the Marist volleyball team completed a weekend sweep with a 3-1 victory over Iona in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at McCann Arena.

Summary

Gabriella Heimbauer logged a kill and an ace to get the Red Foxes going in the first set.
After a wave of back and forth kills, Marist found themselves up against the Iona 12-8 only for the Gaels to go on a 4-0 run, tying the first game at 12 apiece.
Marist took control with an 8-1 run, and captured the first set 25-19. Jordan Newblatt led the match with five kills at the end of one.
The Red Foxes quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead in set two, and never relinquished the lead
Iona attempted to muster up a comeback in the 2nd, but Gabriella Heimbauer's second ace and an incredible block from Vanessa Zolg halted the Gaels in their tracks, and brought Marist back-to-back set victories with a score of 25-16. Kendall O'Brien grabbed the final point of the set with a brilliant service ace.
In a back-and-forth third set, Iona took control late with a 7-1 run. The Gaels kept the match going with a 25-20 set three victory.
Jordan Newblatt's three successive kills staked Marist to a 4-1 lead in set four.
Iona bounced back with a 7-0 run to take a 13-12 lead.
From there, neither team led by more than three the rest of the set. Iona fought off a match point, and then Marist fought off a set point to end the match with three straight points. Newblatt had two kills in a block in this ending stretch.

Stats

Newblatt finished with a match-high 20 kills, and hit .486. She also tied for the match high with 21 digs.
McKinley Fox had a match-high 50 assists.
Alyssa White led the Red Foxes with four blocks.
Marist hit .319 for the match.
Six players on Marist logged a service ace today, with three players getting multiple.
Emma Jacobs had 14 kills and hit .500 for Iona.

Records

Marist is now 7-8 overall and 2-2 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes have now won two straight following their 3-0 win over Manhattan on Saturday.
Iona is 3-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
