POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -Â The Marist men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Marist Season Opener for the first time since 2019 on Saturday morning at Vassar Farm. Following the event's conclusion at approximately noon, the program held a senior day ceremony, honoring the 22 senior student-athletes who have worked tirelessly for the program throughout their time at Marist.Â
In the event, the Marist women finished in fourth place, while the men's team took home first place. UConn was victorious on the women's side, while Central Connecticut won the competition on the men's side.Â

- The women's top three finishers, Hayley Collins, Gianna Mastromatteo, and Talia Cutrone, were all fifth years using their last year of eligibility to lead the program.Â
- Cutrone and Ellie Davis' times of 19:46.7 and 20:30.7, respectively, were both personal bests on the home course after the two year layoff.Â
- Three freshman, Adele Alexander, Hannah Belleville, and Mary Dougherty, were among Marist's top six finishers.Â

- It was a strong start to the season for Chris Praxis, as he paced the way for the men finishing 12th with a time of 19:21.7.
- It was a strong debut for Gabe Rodriguez, who clocked in at 20:13.90 which was good for 29th place.Â
- Brendan Drearie, John Ignacz, and Dom Mastromatteo each finished in the top-30 for Marist.

- Although this is the first time in five year's that neither team won the event, the performance after nearly a two year layoff was outstanding.Â
- This was Marist's first non-championship meet since October 19, 2019.Â
- The women lost to Siena by 27Â points, while the Men beat Siena by five points. The Saints will be hosting Marist's next event.Â

The cross country teams will head north for the Siena Invitational on Saturday, September 11. The meet will begin at 9:45 a.m.
