Marist Women's Basketball Falls Short to Rival Siena

The Red Foxes Drop a Conference Game Against the Saints

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's basketball team fell Thursday night to the Siena Saints, 69-53 at McCann Arena in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup. With the conference loss, the Red Foxes move to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in MAAC play. 
 
Summary
  • In the first half there were five lead changes with four times tied. Marist held the lead for 13:42 minutes of the first half to take a 29-24 lead into halftime.
  • The Red Foxes shot 48% from the field (12-for-25), Siena shot 32% from the field (12-for-31). Both teams combined for only three field goals from behind the arc. Marist shot 1-for-6 from three, Siena shot 2-for-10 in the first half.
  • Siena would score the first eight points of the third quarter, outscoring Marist 10-2 to start the second half and take the lead 34-31.
  • In the fourth quarter, a three-minute shooting drought for Marist coincided with an 11-0 run for Siena, building an insurmountable lead for the Saints.
  • The Red Foxes did not make a field goal in the last five minutes of the game while Siena went 8-for-10 from the field to close out the game.
Stats
  • Zaria Shazer was the only player on the team that scored in double-digits. Collecting 13-points, shooting 50% from the field. Shazer also lead the team in rebounds (8). 
  • Kiara Fisher collected seven assists, one shy to her season high and scored nine points. 
  • For the game, Marist shot 42.3% from the field (22-for-52) and only hit a pair of threes (2-for-16). 
  • After shooting just 2-for-10 in the first half, Siena flipped the switch, shooting 6-for-10 in the second half from deep.
  • Siena's Rayshel Brown didn't notch a point in the first half going 0-for-2 from the field. In the second half she led the Saints with 16 points on 8-for-12 shooting and scored 12 points in the fourth.
