Women's Rowing Enjoys Successful Day at Head of the Fish

Red Foxes Have 12 Crews Participate in Six Events

SARATOGA, New York - Marist Women's Rowing traveled to Saratoga, NY this weekend to compete at the Head of the Fish Regatta, our favorite head race of the fall season! The women raced 12 crews in six events and 11 walk-ons were introduced to collegiate racing on a gorgeous fall day!
 
A large majority of our Marist athletes raced in multiple events throughout the day, the goal being to gain more racing experience as we continue to gain speed.
 
Sophomore Summer Starrett and junior Avalon Johnson once again stepped up to the plate to represent our program in the collegiate 1x. Summer completed the course in a time of 15:04.76 which was good enough for 2nd place and a silver medal. Avalon raced to a time of 15:46.21 which placed her 4th overall in the field of 10 scullers from Tufts, Ithaca, Middlebury and Laval Rowing Club. All in all a great way to start the regatta!
 
Next up were our three Frosh/Novice 4s consisting of experienced first year rowers as well as walk-ons, who were competing in their first college race. The "A" crew consisted of coxswain Ariana Novero, Natalie Ronan, Katie Beichert, Dreama Manganiello and Victoria Stout. The "B" crew consisted of coxswain Juliette Savarino, Isabel Consavari, Lacey Schatzel, Courtney Clark and Isabella Rivera. The "C" crew consisted of coxswain Carina Pascucci, Shelby McDougall, Kaleigh Tompkins, Lilly Green and Charlotte Beer. It was a great experience for our first year rowers and each crew raced very well to strong finishes in a field of 15 crews. Marist "A" was 3rd in a time of 14:09.34, Marist "B" was 5th in a time of 14:43.7 and Marist "C" was 8th in a time of 15:19.24.
 
Our Varsity 8 raced next and consisted of coxswain Abigail Cieplinski, Natalia Miklos, Gabriele Insero, Summer Starrett, Emma Jauch, Lauren Muhr, Ashley Surette, Caroline Voorhis and Genevieve Anderson. This combination of athletes finished seventh of 24 in a time of 12:04.23. 
 
We entered our 2nd Varsity 8 into a field of 25 crews. This combination consisted of coxswain Emma Spiro, Avalon Johnson, Katie Beichert, Natalie Ronan, Victoria Stout, Jessica Zygmunt, Isabel Consavari, Sydney Macchia and Rebecca Paul. This boat finished 12th with a time of 13:05.36.
 
We entered two Freshman/Novice 8's and raced to a 7th and 19th place finish in a field of 21 crews. The "A" boat finished in a time of 12:48.5 and consisted of coxswain Ariana Novero, Isabel Consavari, Katie Beichert, Natalie Ronan, Dreama Manganiello, Sydney Macchia, Courtney Clark, Lacey Schatzel and Victoria Stout.  The "B" lineup finished in a time of 15:58.81 and consisted of coxswain Carina Pascucci, Shelby McDougall, Charlotte Beer, Lilly Green, Kaleigh Tompkins, Isabella Rivera, Rebecca Robinson, Lauren Kelly and Hailey Brown.
 
Our final entries were in the Varsity 4 event where we had and A, B and C entry in the large field of 34 crews. The A boat consisted of coxswain Abigail Cieplinski, Natalia Miklos, Gabriele Insero, Summer Starrett and Ashley Surette. This crew finished fifth in a time of 13:06.22. The B boat placed 17th in a time of 13:43.3 and consisted of coxswain Emma Spiro, Avalon Johnson, Emma Jauch, Caroline Voorhis and Genevieve Anderson. The C crew was comprised of coxswain Juliette Savarino, Rebecca Paul, Emily Liguori, Jennifer Liguori and Alexandra Gibeault. This crew finished 23rd with a time of 13:57.4 and concluded another successful day of racing for all of the Marist crews on Fish Creek!

The team is now preparing for its next competition which will be a 2000m race at Overpeck Park, NJ on Sunday, Nov. 6.
