Women’s Basketball Opens Conference Play at Niagara

Red Foxes Begin MAAC Play With a 4-5 Overall Record

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team finished up its non-conference slate with a 4-5 record this past weekend. The Red Foxes will begin MAAC play at Niagara on Saturday, Dec. 17. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Kiara Fisher scored the first four points for Marist, giving the Red Foxes their first lead.
  • With five minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Red Foxes extended their lead with a 8-0. Marist led American 12-4 after one quarter of play. 
  • The Red Foxes' defense held the Eagles scoreless just under six minutes in the second quarter. American went 0-7 from the field and 0-2 from three in their scoring drought.
  • Marist took a 34-10 lead into halftime.
  • In the first seven minutes of the second half, both teams scored a total of 13 points from the free throw line. American doubled its score with 15 points in the third quarter.
  • The Red Foxes defeated the Eagles by a score of 59-41.
 
SCOUTING NIAGARA
  • The Red Foxes had a seven-game win streak against Niagara since 2019, but the Purple Eagles broke it by winning the most recent matchup 85-67 on Feb. 10, 2022.
  • The Purple Eagles were selected third in the preseason poll, after making it to the semifinals of the MAAC Championship last season.
  • Niagara finished non-conference play with a record of 1-7, with sole win coming from a 64-55 victory in the season opener against Loyola Maryland.
  • The Purple Eagles are coming off a 63-58 loss to Buffalo on Dec. 7.
  • Aaliyah Parker leads the Purple Eagles averaging 16.8 points per game.
  • Parker also leads her team in rebounds (58), steals (32), and assists (15).
  • The Purple Eagles average 58.1 points per game.
