Baseball Uses Hot Bats and Pitching to Beat Norfolk State

First 2-0 Start Since 2009 For the Red Foxes

NORFOLK, Virginia - The Marist Red Foxes continued their hot start to the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Norfolk State by a final score of 13-5.

  • Marist got out to a hot start again, with a Dylan Hoy lead-off single, Brian Hart double, and RBI's from Robbie Armitage and Gavin Noriega to give them a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
  • Erubiel Candelario started the first three innings with four strikeouts and no hits. 
  • The game remained 2-0 until the top of the third, when Marist erupted for five runs, all with two outs. Noriega got the rally started with a walk, followed by a Niko Amory single to put runners in scoring position. Peter Dudunakis and Colin Mackle reached on a hit by pitch and walk, respectively. Reece Armitage and Marco Ali capitalized on the opportunity with singles to keep the rally rolling.
  • Norfolk State finally got to Candelario in the sixth inning, scoring one run on a triple and single.
  • The Red Foxes tacked on five more runs in the 7th and 8th inning on two hits and an error, extending their lead late. 
  • Freshman Jack Bowery came in relief in the 9th inning, making his first college appearance and closing out the win for Marist.
