Marist Women's Basketball Falls to Quinnipiac

Bobcats Use Fourth Quarter Push to Pull Away from Red Foxes

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's basketball team was defeated by Quinnipiac on Thursday afternoon by a final score of 65-56. 
 
SUMMARY
  • At the first media timeout, Quinnipiac led Marist by a score of 11-10. Sajada Bonner led the Bobcats with 6 early points.
  • Marist closed the first quarter on a 7-0 highlighted by a Samantha Bailey buzzer-beater three gave the Red Foxes a 17-15 lead. 
  • Quinnipiac answered with a 7-0 run of their own, forcing three Red Foxes turnovers while doing so, to take a 33-25 lead with 4:16 remaining in the first half.
  • Both teams ended the half with scoring droughts exceeding two minutes, but Quinnipiac brought a 36-29 lead into halftime. 
  • Quinnipiac opened the second half with a three pointer to give them a 39-29 lead, their largest of the afternoon.
  • A Kendall Krick layup off the feed from Trinasia Kennedy brought the Red Foxes within two late in the third quarter, but Quinnipiac battled back to a 51-45 lead going into the fourth quarter. 
  • The Red Foxes travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey to take on Monmouth on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
  • An and-one for Trinasia Kennedy with 7:11 left tied her season high (18 points) and brought the Red Foxes within 2 points, trailing 53-51. After a quick seven points from Quinnipiac, Kendall Krick ended a two minute scoring drought for Marist with a pull-up jumper to make it a 60-56 game with 2:11 left.
  • Quinnipiac went on a 3:09 field goal drought late in the fourth quarter, but held on to defeat Marist by a score of 65-56.
 
STATS
  • Trinasia Kennedy led all scorers with 18 points on the afternoon, which ties her season best (@Fairfield 12/18/21).
  • Sajada Bonner led Quinnipiac with 14 points, including 4-9 shooting from deep. Amani Free (12 points), Mikala Morris (10 points), and Rose Caverly (10 points) joined Bonner in double figures. 
  • Morris recorded a game-high 14 rebounds as well, giving her a double-double on the afternoon.
  • Marist shot 38% (23-60) from the field and 42% (8-19) from three.
  • Quinnipiac finished the game shooting 43% (26-61) from the field and 35% (8-23) from three.
 
RECORDS
  • Marist falls to 6-12 in the conference and 8-18 overall.
  • Quinnipiac improves to 12-5 in the conference and 17-9 overall.

  • The Red Foxes will look to bounce back when they travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey to take on Monmouth on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
