Women’s Basketball Set for Their Final Road Matchup Against Monmouth

The Red Foxes Looking to Finish the Regular Season Strong

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team is headed into its final two games of MAAC regular-season play this week. The Red Foxes' first game will be at 7 P.M. on Wednesday, March 2 at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. Their final game is a home game at 7 P.M. on Saturday, March 5 against Manhattan, which will be Senior Night
 

 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes had a home game against the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Thursday, Feb. 24.
  • The Bobcats defeated the Red Foxes by a score of 65-56.
  • Trinasia Kennedy led the scoring with 18 points, tying her season best, which she initially got against Fairfield on Dec. 18.
  • The Red Foxes shot 38% (23-60) from the field, and 42% (8-19) from the three point line.
  • The Red Foxes are now 6-12 in the MAAC, and 8-18 overall.
     
VS MONMOUTH
  • Marist leads Monmouth in the all-time series 28-19. The Red Foxes hold a nine-game win streak against the Hawks.
  • The two teams met on January 15, 2022; the Red Foxes took the victory with a score of 71-53.
  • Marist finished the game with season highs in points (71), steals (15) and turnovers forced (32).
  • The Red Foxes had two players with 20+ points: Kiara Fisher (22) and Zaria Shazer (20).
  • Shazer's 20 points were a career high.
  • The Red Foxes shot .509 (28-for-55) from the field, while Monmouth shot .383 (18-for-47) from the field.

  • Legendary Head Coach Brian Giorgis announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2022-23 season. In his 20 seasons at Marist, Giorgis won a total of 11 MAAC championships – the most in conference history. Nine of those crowns came in a streak from 2006-14. He also led the Red Foxes to five wins in NCAA Tournament play with his best run coming in 2007, where he took them to the Sweet Sixteen . Associate head coach Erin Doughty has been named his successor. "I am extremely excited for the future of Marist women's basketball," said Giorgis.
 
UP NEXT
  • With the regular season ending after their game against Manhattan College, the Red Foxes will be headed off to the MAAC Championships in Atlantic City, New Jersey at Boardwalk Hall. The tournament will be held from Tuesday, March 8th through Saturday, March 12th.
