Red Foxes Have Now Won Four Straight

HARTFORD, Connecticut - The Marist baseball team picked up where they left off last weekend, defeating Hartford by a final score of 8-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Summary
  • Gene Napolitano started the game off with a single, which was followed by a Reece Armitage hit-by-pitch. Two batters later, Robbie Armitage got the Red Foxes on the board with a two run double to give Marist the lead early. 
  • Starting pitcher Jack Keenan kept Hartford hitless through three innings, but was relieved by Zane Kmietek following a single and two walks in the fourth inning. 
  • In the fourth inning, five runs on four hits broke the game open for the Red Foxes. After a leadoff single from Brian Hart, Napolitano had a 2-RBI double, Reece Armitage had a 2-RBI single, and Gavin Noriega singled to give the Red Foxes an 8-0 lead.
  • The Hawks worked a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fourth to get their first run across of the afternoon.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Donnie Cohoon hit a solo shot to center, making the score 8-2 still in favor of the Red Foxes.
  • Despite going scoreless the final five frames, solid pitching and defense secured the 8-2 victory for Marist.

  • Keenan rolled through his start, giving the Red Foxes 3.1 innings allowing just two hits and one run while striking out five Hawks batters.
  • Kmietek, Brian Yetter, Trevor Backman, and Drake Quinn pitched outstanding in relief, throwing a combined 5.2 innings allowing just one run while striking out five.
  • Napolitano led the Red Foxes with two hits, two RBI's, and three runs scored on the afternoon.
  • The Armitage brothers and Gavin Noreiga each had two RBI's in the win. 
  • On offense, the Red Foxes worked eight walks and only struck out four times.

The Red Foxes are now 10-6 on the season, and head into conference play on a four game win streak. This weekend (March 25-27), Marist plays host to the Fairfield Stags in their first home series of the season.
