POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -Â On a brisk Sunday afternoon, the Marist baseball team lost the third and final game of its opening series against Fairfield on Sunday by a final score of 7-4.

- Both pitchers were locked in early, allowing no runs through the first two innings of play.
- In the third inning, after a diving catch by Robbie Armitage in foul territory was overruled, shortstop Mike Becchetti capped off a huge inning with a three-run home-run.Â
- Marist was able to get one back in the bottom of the inning when Robbie Armitage singled home Gene Napolitano.Â
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, Napolitano continued his red-hot weekend at the plate when he roped a triple down the right field line, scoring two and bringing the Red Foxes within two runs. The next at-bat, Reece Armitage hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Napolitano and make it a 5-4 deficit.Â
- Dean Ferrara took advantage of runners in scoring position in the eighth inning by hitting a single down the right-field line to bring the Stags lead back to two runs.Â
- In the top of the ninth, Fairfield added another insurance run on a Matt Zaffino RBI single.Â
- Nick Grabek pitched both the eighth and ninth inning, allowing no hits and no runs to earn the save for Fairfield, as they take the rubber match by a final score of 7-4.
- Napolitano led the Red Foxes, going 2-for-4 on the afternoon with two RBI's and two runs scored.
- Freshman Nathan Lincoln had a solid day at the plate and defensively as he went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Ryan Strollo went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored for the Stags.
- Colin McVeigh and Grabek combined to allow just one hit, no runs, and no walks in relief for Fairfield.
The Red Foxes are now 11-8 on the season and will travel to North Andover, Massachusetts to take on Merrimack on Tuesday with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
