POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Senior catcher
Kaley Coltrain of the Marist softball team was named a candidate for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award on Tuesday.
Coltrain is one of 30 candidates nationwide for the honor, and the only one from a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference school. From this list of 30, a national media committee will select 10 finalists for the award later this season. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. The award winner will include results from fan balloting, coaches' votes, and media votes, and will be announced during the Women's College World Series in June.
Student-athletes who are eligible for the award must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in community, classroom, character, and competition.
A Social Work major, Coltrain is a six-time Marist Dean's List honoree and multi-year MAAC All-Academic Team selection who was named the Marist Center for Student-Athlete Enhancement's Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2021. She is a two-year team captain who is a member of the Marist Diversity Council LGBTQ Sub-Committee, has interned at the Children's Home of Poughkeepsie, and is One Love Training certified.
On the field, Coltrain was a First Team All-MAAC and MAAC All-Championship Team selection last season. She led the conference in batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage, and tied for the MAAC lead in home runs. As a freshman in 2019, she was named Second Team All-MAAC, Third Team NFCA All-Region, and to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
