Baseball Drops Game One to Canisius

Red Foxes Look to Even Series Friday

BUFFALO, New York – In a high scoring battle, the Marist baseball team was defeated by Canisius in game one of a three-game series on Thursday by a final score of 17-12.

Summary
  • A leadoff single from Gene Napolitano and a double from Reece Armitage started the top of the first. Brian Hart then hit a no-doubt home run to right field to give the Red Foxes an early 3-0 lead.
  • After a clean first inning from Jack Bowery, Canisius bounced back with six runs on five hits to take a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the second.
  • With one out in the top of the fifth, Reece Armitage continued his hot day at the plate with a solo home run to right-center.
  • Max Grant extended the Canisius lead to 11-4 with a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Trailing 14-4 in the top of the seventh, Nate Lincoln reached on a lead-off double, Napolitano walked, and Reece Armitage reached on an infield single to load the bases with no outs. The Red Foxes got one run across on an RBI fielder's choice from Hart, cutting the lead to 14-5. Gavin Noriega then doubled to center to make the score 14-7. After singles from Johnny Decker and Marco Ali with two outs, Devin Boone tripled to center field, making the score 14-12. 
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Canisius added two insurance runs on three hits to take a 17-12 lead into the ninth.

  • Hart and Reece Armitage both homered for the Red Foxes.
  • Matt Duffy went six innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out nine for the Golden Griffins.
  • Mike DeStefano had four hits, including a double, triple, and five runs scored for Canisius.
