Baseball Comes From Behind to Take Game One

Red Foxes Defeat Monmouth, 5-4.

WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey – The Marist baseball team rallied late to take down Monmouth by a score of 5-4 to take game one of the teams' three-game weekend series.

Summary
  • Both starters were dealing early, as Brian Yetter and Trey Dombrowski both threw a scoreless first two innings.
  •  In the bottom of the sixth, a Monmouth double gave the Hawks a 3-0 lead.
  • The Red Foxes' offense came alive late, plating five runs in the top of the eighth. The scoring got started with a Nathan Lincoln RBI double, followed by a Gene Napolitano single to score Lincoln. Gavin Noriega roped an opposite field single to score two runs and give Marist its first lead of the game. Brian Hart reached on a fielder's choice later in the inning to extend the Marist lead to 5-3.
  • Monmouth responded with a home run in the bottom of the eighth to cut the deficit to one run.
  • Despite walking the lead-off batter in the bottom of the ninth, Drake Quinn got three straight outs to secure the win and pick up his fourth save of the season.

  • Brian Yetter pitched a beauty for the Red Foxes, throwing 5.0 innings allowing just three hits, one earned run while striking out five.
  • Trey Dombroski was efficient for the Hawks, allowing no earned runs in seven innings with nine strikeouts.
