Marist Baseball Takes Game One From Iona

Red Foxes Have Won Four Straight MAAC Games

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist baseball team got its bats going early and did not let up on their way to a 18-4 victory against Iona in the first game of the teams' three-game weekend series. 

 
Summary
  • Marist got the scoring started in the first inning when Gavin Noriega got a ball to drop in left field scoring Reece Armitage. Brian Hart followed that up with a two-RBI single to put the Red Foxes up 3-0 at the end of the first. 

  • Iona scored on a balk in the top of the second to cut the lead to 3-1. 

  • Noriega hit a double in the bottom of the second to score two and put the Red Foxes up 5-1. Then, in the bottom of the third, Gene Napolitano hit a three-run home run to extend the lead to 8-1. 

  • Dylan Hoy and Marco Ali hit back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the Red Foxes up 10-1.

  • In the top of the sixth Iona scored three runs to cut the lead to 10-4. In the bottom of the sixth Noriega hit an RBI triple and Hart hit him home with a two-run home run to extend the Red Fox lead to 13-4. 

  • Robbie Armitage hit a two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to make the lead 15-4. 

  • In the bottom of the eighth Niko Amory drew a walk with the bases loaded to score a run. Then Colin Mackle was hit by a pitch bringing in another and making the lead 17-4. Robbie Armitage made it 18-4 with a sacrifice fly.

  • Brian Yetter pitched 5.0 innings allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out five. 

  • The Red Foxes scored 18 runs on 15 hits. 

  • Eight different Red Foxes recorded at least one RBI, with Brian Hart leading the way with four. Gene Napolitano, Robbie Armitage, and Gavin Noriega had three each. 

  • Ten different Red Foxes recorded at least one hit, with Noriega leading the way with three. Napolitano, Hart, and Dylan Hoy each had two.
