Marist Baseball Opens Saint Peter's Series With Win

Ball Foxes Are Winners of Nine Straight

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist baseball took game one of a three game series from Saint Peter's on Friday, taking down the Peacocks by a final score of 8-3.

Marist now holds the second longest active win streak in the country with nine consecutive wins.

Summary
  • Collin Jensen singled down the left field line to get Saint Peter's on the board in the top of the first. 
  • The Ball Foxes responded quickly as Brian Hart tripled in the bottom of the first to score Reece and Robbie Armitage. Johnny Decker later singled to score Hart and give Marist a 3-1 lead.
  • In the bottom of the second, Peter Dudunakis doubled to left, then Gene Napolitano doubled to score him. Robbie Armitage later singled to score Napolitano and give Marist a 5-1 lead. Gavin Noriega got in on the fun, nearly hitting a home run the opposite way en route to an RBI-double giving Marist a 6-1 lead.
  • Fast forward to the bottom of the fifth, Johnny Decker scored on an error and Dylan Hoy scored on a ground out to second by Napolitano. After five complete, the Red Foxes led 8-1. 
  • Brian Yetter had retired 12 straight batters entering the seventh inning, but Saint Peter's got its first two runners on in the top of the seventh to force Marist to go to their bullpen. That inning, the Peacocks scratched across two runs to cut the Marist lead to 8-3.
  • Jack Bowery came in to pitch in the eighth with two runners on, but retired three straight batters to get Marist out of the jam. Bowery stayed in for the ninth to seal the win for the Red Foxes.
