Men's Soccer Begins Season on the Road

Red Foxes Travel to Howard

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's soccer team begins the 2022 season on the road this week. The Red Foxes will travel to Howard for Thursday's opener, which is set for 4 p.m.
 
2022 Season Preview
  • Marist was picked to win the MAAC, falling one vote short of being a unanimous pick to finish first. The Red Foxes received 10 of 11 first-place votes and 120 out of a possible 121 points in the poll, which is voted on by coaches throughout the conference.
  • Senior midfielder Henrique Cruz and graduate goalkeeper Samuel Ilin were both selected to the Preseason All-MAAC team.
  • The Red Foxes will play seven non-conference opponents this season. Their non-conference schedule will feature a home match against Florida Atlantic University on Saturday, Sept. 10, and a trip to the state of Washington to take on Gonzaga on Thursday, Sept. 15. 
  • Marist will have five MAAC home games, including the season finale against Mount St. Mary's on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. The Red Foxes will hit the road for five conference road games, including a showdown with Rider in New Jersey on Oct. 22. The Broncs were the only other team to receive a first-place vote in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' poll.
 
2021 Season Recap
  • Marist finished the season with an overall record of 12-7-3. The 12 wins were tied for the most in the program's Division I history, and most in the 2000's.
  • The Red Foxes won the programs fourth MAAC Championship in the fall, and were defeated by Providence in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
  • Coach Matt Viggiano was named MAAC Coach of the Year for the first time in his coaching career after leading the Red Foxes to the MAAC regular season title and the program's best conference record (7-2-1).
  • Samuel Ilin, Henrique Cruz, Skylar Conway, and Richard Morel, who all returned to Marist for the 2022 campaign, also were honored by the MAAC.
    • Samuel Ilin was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in his career and named First Team All-MAAC as well.
    • Henrique Cruz was named First Team All-MAAC as a midfielder in his first season with the Red Foxes.
    • Skylar Conway was named Second Team All-MAAC for the third time in his career.
    • Forward Richard Morel was named to the MAAC All-Rookie team.
