LOUDONVILLE, New York - The Marist women's cross country team was led by its freshmen and sophomores at Saturday's Siena Invitational.
For the second straight week, the Red Foxes were led by a runner in her collegiate debut. Nora White placed 20th overall in 18:50.8. Parker O'Brien, who led Marist last week, placed 25th overall.
Sophomores Hannah Belleville (21 seconds) and Kaitlyn Murtagh (35 seconds) had significant improvements over their times last year at the same course.
The top 11 Marist finishers were either freshmen or sophomores. The Red Foxes placed fifth out of 14 teams in a deep field of Division I and national-caliber Division III teams, and topped four MAAC foes.
"I'm really proud of how well the women ran today at Siena," head coach Chuck Williams said. "We closed some of the gaps from last week's season opener and we were strengthened by the return of some key runners. Looking forward to being at full strength when we return for the MAAC Championships and the potential this team has to be really strong at the end of the season."
