Football Hosts Georgetown in Season Opener

Red Foxes Face Hoyas on Saturday at Tenney Stadium for Noon Kickoff

POUGHKEEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team opens the 2022 season against Georgetown on Saturday at Tenney Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon.

Preseason All-PFL
  • Marist had three Preseason All-PFL selections in Mike Arrington, Clayborne Fields III, and Teddy Wright.
  • Last year, Fields was named Third Team FCS All-American by The Associated Press. Wright was named First Team All-PFL and All-ECAC. Arrington was named Second Team All-PFL.
  • As a team, Marist was picked to finish sixth in the PFL Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  
History vs. Georgetown
  • Georgetown leads the all-time series, 17-5, which dates back to 1994 when the teams were rivals in the MAAC Football League.
  • Marist has faced Georgetown more than any team on its 2022 schedule.
  • Georgetown has won the last two meetings. The teams were scheduled to meet in the 2021 season opener, which was canceled due to COVID-19.
  • Georgetown has won the last four meetings at Tenney Stadium. The last Marist win came by a score of 23-21 on Nov. 7, 2009 when Jason Myers hit a game-winning 37-yard field goal with one second remaining.

  • Marist is returning 11 starters from last season (five offensive, six defensive).
  • This is the first time Marist is starting a season with back-to-back home games since 2016.
  • Since Tenney Stadium opened in 2007, the highest temperature at kickoff was 85 degrees, when Marist hosted Georgetown on Sept. 10, 2016.
 
Meet The Boss
  • Head Coach Jim Parady is entering his 31st year leading the program, and 32nd at Marist.
  • Parady is the longest tenured head coach in Division I.
  • With 147 career wins, Parady is just three shy of becoming the 14th head coach in FCS history to reach 150.
 
2021
  • Marist went 5-5 overall and 5-3 in the Pioneer Football League.
  • It marked the seventh time in the last eight years that the Red Foxes were at least .500 in PFL play.
 
About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas were picked sixth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll.
  • Joshua Tomas was named First Team Preseason All-Patriot League as a return specialist.
  • Neal Azar and Justin Fonteneaux are the Hoyas' captains.
  • Rob Sgarlata is in his ninth year as head coach. Sgarlata has an association of over 30 years with the Georgetown program as a player, assistant coach, and head coach.
