Marist Cross Country to Host Season Opener

Senior Day Festivities to Follow the Meet

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The men's and women's cross country teams will begin their 2022 campaign at the Marist Season Opener on Saturday, Sept. 3. The meet will begin at 9 a.m. and will be held at Vassar Farm. UConn (women only), Felician, Hartford, Iona, Manhattan, and Siena will be the visiting schools competing in the event.
 
Following Saturday's races, Marist will honor members of both cross country teams with a Senior Day ceremony for their dedication to the program throughout their careers.
 
Last Season Opener
  • Last year, Marist took home first place in the men's race and the women's team finished in fourth.
  • The men will look to make it five straight first place finishes at the Marist Season Opener.
  • The women Red Foxes have finished first in three of the previous four meets at Vassar Farms, and are looking to make it four of the last five. 
 
New Talent
  • The men's cross country program is bringing in a group of five freshmen joining the Red Foxes from all over the Northeast.
  • On the women's side, 11 freshman join an experienced group of Red Foxes who are looking to make a run at the MAAC Championship.
 
Preseason Polls
  • The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Poll was released on Aug. 24, where the league coaches vote on the final standings predictions.
  • On the men's side, the Red Foxes were picked to finish fifth in the conference. The women were also chosen to finish fifth, trailing Rider by just one point.
 
Championships
  • The MAAC Championships will return to the Crossings at Colonie in Colonie, NY on Saturday, Oct. 29. 
  • Last season, the men finished seventh and the women finished sixth. 
 
Up Next
  • The Red Foxes will compete at the Siena Invitational next weekend, on Saturday, Sept. 10.
