Volleyball Drops Two Matches at The Hokie Invite

The Red Foxes Were Defeated by ODU & Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Virginia – The Marist volleyball team dropped two games Friday, September 2 against Old Dominion and Virginia Tech. Old Dominion defeated Marist by a score of 3-1 and Virginia Tech shut the Red Foxes 3-0.
 
MATCH ONE | ODU 3, Marist 1
  • Marist took an early lead against Old Dominion, 5-1. Sasha van der Merwe collected a quick two kills to open the first set. ODU battled back to tie the set up at six apiece and to take the lead. The set remained close with a couple lead changes, a 4-0 Marist run gave them the lead need to hold the advantage of ODU. Collecting the victory in set one, 25-23.
  • ODU came out strong in set two against the Red Foxes. Old Dominion pulled away from the Red Foxes after being tied at five apiece. Old Dominion went on a few scoring runs, to secure the win 25-15.
  • Set three the Red Foxes fell behind early in set two and three. The Monarchs held the lead in the two final sets, defeating Marist 3-1.

MATCH TWO | Virginia Tech 3, Marist 0
  • Virginia Tech defeated Marist in set one against Marist by a score of 25-11.  The Red Foxes were battling the Hokies until the tenth point, Virginia Tech went on a few runs to hold the advantage over the Red Foxes.
  • In set two the Red Foxes took a lead 7-5 from a kill from Vanessa Zolg and Gabrielle Heller. Marist went on a 4-0 run to pull ahead 20-12. The Hokies battled back to tie the Red Foxes 20-20. Virginia Tech secured the win by a score of 25-22.
  • Virginia Tech closed out the match, with a win in the third set. The Red Foxes and Hokies battled back and forth, Virginia Tech defeated Marist by a score of 25-19.
