SHELTON, Connecticut - Women's Rowing competed against Sacred Heart, Holy Cross, Fairfield, Bryant, and Fordham over a course covering 5000m at the Heart of th Housatonic on Saturday. Marist fielded two Varsity 8s, four Varsity 4s, and a Novice 8. Not only was it the first race of the season for the entire team, it was the first ever race for the Red Fox walk-ons who got an early taste of collegiate racing.

The Red Foxes placed second in the Varsity 8 and Novice 8 events and first in the Varsity 4 event.
The Varsity 8 consisted of coxswain
Ariana Novero,
Summer Starrett,
Gabrielle Insero,
Natalia Miklos,
Ashley Surette,
Lillian Iannaccone,
Avalon Johnson,
Rebecca Paul, and
Isabel Consavari. This crew finished second out of 15 crews with a time of 18:14, two seconds behind Holy Cross.
The second Varsity consisted of coxswain
Emma Spiro, Jess Zygmunt,
Katie Beichert,
Sydney Macchia,
Kaleigh Tompkins,
Courtney Clark,
Shelby McDougall,
Emily Liguori,
Lilly Green. This crew finished 10th overall with a time of 19:19.

The Novice 8 consisted of coxswain Grace Foley, Sophie Forester,
Nora Messer, Sydney Fronheiser, Kora Eckelman, Abby Deane, Maddie Buchsbaum, Lucia Kennedy, and Jenna Jaffe. For their first race this crew finished second out of four novice crews with a time 21:11, behind Fairfield's frosh 8 and ahead of Holy Cross and Sacred Heart.
The 4s were next. Marist's first four to finish consisted of coxswain

Ashley Surette. This crew won the race, besting the next fastest crew, Holy Cross, by over a minute with a time of 18:59. The next Red Fox crew finished seventh overall with a time of 20:41. The crew consisted of coxswain

Rebecca Paul. Our next crew finished 13th with a time of 21:37 and consisted of coxswain

Emily Liguori. The fourth Red Fox crew to finish consisted of coxswain Cara Orcutt, Jess Zygmunt,
Isabella Rivera, Jen Liguori, and Alex Gibeault. This crew finished 18th with a time of 23:12. Each of the Marist crews raced hard and handled the rainy and cold conditions better than the competition.

The Red Foxes are set to partake in the Head of the Charles next Saturday! Join us in Boston to cheer on seven Marist crews over the course of the weekend. The women's crews all race on Saturday. The alumnae 8 races at 11:19 a.m., the Club 4 (current athletes) races at 1:04 p.m. and the Club 8 (current athletes) races at 1:43 p.m. The men's alumni crews race at 9:11 a.m., 9:22 a.m. and 10:59 a.m. and our men's Collegiate 8 races on Sunday at 2:16 p.m. Each of our alumni/alumnae crews are racing under the Queen City Rowing Club "QBC". As per norm, all current crews are racing under Marist College. It should be a great weekend of racing in Boston so please find us at the trailer to say hello and cheer on the teams of old and new!
