Women's Rowing Commences Fall Schedule Over Family Weekend

Women's Rowing First Fall Action Took Place at the Poughkeepsie Regatta

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist Women's Rowing kicked off their fall racing season this past weekend by competing in the Poughkeepsie Regatta hosted by the Mid-Hudson Rowing Association and Hudson River Rowing Association. The women raced six crews in two events (Collegiate 8s and Collegiate 4s) in front of a home crowd as part of Family Weekend activities on campus.

First up were two Collegiate 8's. Coxswain Emma Spiro guided her upperclassmen down the 4800m course with a time of 15:26. This crew consisted of Summer Starrett, Ashley Surette, Natalia Miklos, Gabby Insero, Casey Hodge, Avalon Johnson, Rebecca Paul and Emily Liguori. The next 8 was steered by coxswain Ariana Novero who navigated the course to a time of 16:23. This crew consisted of Natalie Ronan, Katie Beichert, Isabel Consavari, Shelby McDougal, Courtney Clark, Kaleigh Tompkins, Sydney Macchia and Lilly Green. The Marist 8s finished first and second respectively and were followed by third place Vassar College with a time of 16:58.

Next up were our four Collegiate 4's. The course was shortened to 3200m due to deteriorating conditions at the top end of the regular course. First place went to coxswain Juliette Savarino, Katie Beichert, Lillian Iannaccone, Casey Hodge and Sydney Macchia with a time of 14:47. Second place went to coxswain Rebecca Robinson, Natalie Ronan, Kaleigh Tompkins, Shelby McDougal and Isabel Consavari with a time of 15:56. Third place went to coxswain Carina Pascucci, Jessica Zygmunt, Isabella Rivera, Jen Liguori and Alex Gibeault with a time of 16:06. Fourth place went to coxswain Cara Orcutt, Nora Messer, Kora Eckelman, Sophia Ventosa and Jenna Jaffe with a time of 17:07. All four crews bested Vassar College who finished with times of 17:16 and 18:18.

Overall, it was a successful Family Day celebration for the team and we were able to meet, greet and welcome a super new group of crew parents to the Red Fox Family.
