POUGHKEEPSIE, New York- The Marist Men's Rowing Team is traveling to Boston, MA this weekend to race at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta.

The Head of the Charles is the world's largest rowing regatta and is an event that Marist has been attending since its inception in 1965. This Year the Marist team has entered their varsity eight crew in the Men's Collegiate Eight event which will be rowed at 2:16pm on Sunday October 22nd. The Head of the Charles is a "Head Race" or time trial style event where crews race in single file over a fixed distance competing for the fastest time. Marist is one of 42 Crews in their event.

In addition to the current athletes rowing, Marist also has a strong alumni presence at the event. 3 Men's alumni crews will be racing on Saturday morning including:
  • 9:11am Senior Masters Eight (Ages 50+)
  • 9:22am Grand Masters/ Veteran Eight (Ages 70+)
  • 10:59 pm Men's Alumni Eight ( Young Alumni)
  • There is also a Women's Alumni crew racing at 11:19am
From Coach Woods
"Marist was one of the original crews at the inaugural 1965 HOCR race. Since that time, the regatta has grown exponentially to become the largest rowing event in the world. Each year our athletes look forward to the opportunity to row at this event. The Charles course is challenging physically but also extremely technical with many tight turns and bridges as obstacles. With an enormous alumni presence at this year's event, as well as our current athletes, it's going to be a really special year and an opportunity to showcase 4 different generations of Red Foxes with a shared passion and experience for the sport of rowing!" - Campbell Woods, Men's Rowing Head Coach
