Marist Falls at St. Thomas

Bagozzi, Shannon Score Rushing Touchdowns

ST. PAUL, Minnesota – The Marist football team suffered a 49-14 loss at St. Thomas in a Pioneer Football League game on Saturday.
 
Scoring
  • Amari Powell's 41-yard touchdown pass to Colin Chase gave St. Thomas a 7-0 lead with 6:06 left in the first quarter.
  • Hope Adebayo scored a one-yard rushing touchdown as the Tommies took a 14-0 lead with 3:06 remaining in the first.
  • Adebayo then scored from 43 yards out, which put St. Thomas up 21-0 with 21 seconds left in the first quarter.
  • Gabriel Abel's five-yard rushing touchdown put St. Thomas up 28-0 with 12:56 left in the second quarter.
  • On fourth down, Brock Bagozzi scored on a keeper from 11 yards out. This cut Marist's deficit to 28-7 with 1:24 left in the first half.
  • Powell threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Andrew McElroy with one second left in the first half. St. Thomas took a 35-7 lead to the locker room.
  • Shawn Shipman's two-yard touchdown run gave St. Thomas a 42-7 lead with 1:18 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Tristan Shannon's two-yard touchdown run on a fourth down cut Marist's deficit to 42-14 with 11:12 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Abel scored a seven-yard rushing touchdown with 4:08 remaining.
 
Stats
  • Rechee Smith and Kyle Coffindaffer had interceptions.
  • Bagozzi completed 29 of 48 passes for 290 yards.
  • Shannon had a team-high 18 rushing yards, and tied for the team lead with seven receptions (for 66 yards).
  • Reed Dexter had a team-high 93 receiving yards, and tied Shannon for the team lead in receptions.
  • Justin Iaccio had a team-high eight tackles.
  • Nick Jackson had two-and-a-half tackles for loss.
 
Notes
  • Smith had an interception for the second straight week.
  • Dexter and Shannon set career highs for receptions and receiving yards.
  • Marist had come in with a four-game PFL winning streak, its longest in league play since 2018.
 
Records
  • Marist is now 4-4 overall and 4-2 in the PFL.
  • St. Thomas is 6-3 this season and 5-1 in league play.
