Women's Soccer Falls at Home to Siena

Saints Shut Out Red Foxes With Strong Defense

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - In its first "Faculty and Staff Appreciation Game" to recognize all the people who help them excel both on the field and in the classroom, the Marist women's soccer team fell to conference rival Siena 4-0 on Wednesday night at Tenney Stadium.

Quote From Coach
  •  "Not our best performance over 90 minutes, an unfortunate first goal to give up after an ok start to the half that completely changed the dynamic of the game. Only thing we could do now is know that we weren't at our best, learn from it and look forward to a big game Saturday," said Head Coach Nicole Pacapelli.
Summary
  • Siena opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Maddy Catalanotti tried to come off her line and dive on a loose ball at the edge of the box, but Siena attacker Abby Daly beat her to the ball and finished on an empty net to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
  • In the 42nd minute, Siena added to its lead as Cora Keohane received a cross inside the box and one-timed it into the back of the net to make it 2-0 going into halftime.
  • Daly scored her second goal of the game in the 49th minute to increase Siena's lead to 3-0.
  • The Saints added one more goal in the 77th minute on another cross-and-finish to extend the lead to 4-0.
Stats
  • Catalanotti had seven saves for the Red Foxes.
  • Siena had the advantage in shots (17-6) and shots on target (11-0).
  • The two teams combined for 14 fouls in the match.
Up Next
  • The Red Foxes will host Mount St. Mary's this upcoming Saturday, Oct. 7.  This game will be their Pride Game to show support of the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
