POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist volleyball prevailed in a tight contest with Iona, winning 3-2 after leading 2 sets to 0.
 

• The first set saw the Red Foxes tie Iona 16-16 following a kill from Jordan Newblatt. The first set eventually came to a close on behalf of Gabriella Heimbauer.
• The Red Foxes sprinted to a 6-1 lead in the second set, forcing an Iona timeout. Despite this, Marist did not look back, winning the second set 25-11.
• Iona came out fighting in the third set, leading 7-2 before a Marist timeout. The Red Foxes tied the set 8-8 after a 6-1 run.
• A tightly contested third set saw Iona win 26-24.The fourth set was close with Iona leading at one point 15-14. The Gaels eventually closed out the fourth set 25-20 forcing a tie-breaking fifth.
• Marist tied the final set 13-13 after trailing for much of the set. The Red Foxes closed out the final set 16-14 via two consecutive kills from Jordan Newblatt.

• Jordan Newblatt finished with 22 kills and 20 digs.
• Sasha van der Merwe recorded 19 kills and 14 digs.
• Claire Lewis had 57 assists and 14 digs.

•  Marist has a quick turnaround as they face Manhattan tomorrow Saturday, Oct. 7.
• The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
