Men's Basketball Moves To 2-0 in MAAC Play

Red Foxes Triumph Over Manhattan, Remain Unbeaten at Home & in MAAC Play

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's basketball team earned a 70-56 victory over the Manhattan Jaspers on Sunday afternoon at McCann Arena.
 
Summary
  • The two teams traded buckets early. A Jaden Daughtry steal and driving layup gave the Red Foxes a 10-9 lead at the first media timeout with 13:54 remaining in the first half.
  • Marist utilized a 10-0 run that included a Noah Harris three-pointer, followed by a Josh Pascarelli pull-up jumper to extend the lead to 22-12 at the 8:45 mark.
  • Isaiah Brickner drained a three-pointer with the shotclock winding down to end a Marist scoring drought that lasted over two minutes and made it 29-22 with 3:14 to go in the half.
  • The Red Foxes led 33-27 at halftime. Seven different players scored at least four points for Marist.
  • Javon Cooley buried two three-pointers in the first four minutes to get the Marist offense going in the second half.
  • A 14-0 run that was capped off by a Max Allen II offensive rebound and layup gave the Red Foxes a 52-30 lead with 12:24 remaining in the game.
  • The Jaspers used a 6-0 run in less than a minute to cut the Marist lead to 15 points at 56-41 with 9:34 to go.
  • Despite a field goal drought that lasted over five-and-a-half minutes, the Red Foxes were able to stay in control of the game by knocking down their free throws. Pascarelli ended the scoring drought with a three-pointer from the wing to make it 68-51 at the 5:46 mark.
  • The Red Foxes hung on to win it 70-56.

  • Pascarelli led the way with 16 points on an efficient 6-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range. He also added five rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
  • Brickner contributed with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and a game-high two blocks.
  • Cooley added 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
  • Jadin Collins gave the Red Foxes four scorers in double-digits as he finished with 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
  • Marist shot .463 (25-for-54) from the field and .333 (7-for-21) from three, while holding Manhattan to .356 (21-for-59) overall and .167 (4-for-24) from downtown. 
  • The Red Foxes won the rebound battle, 41-30.

  • Pascarelli's 16 points are a career high.
  • Brickner's two blocks ties his career high, which he has now achieved three times.
  • Marist secured its sixth 2-0 MAAC start in its 27 years in the conference, and first since the 2010-11 season.
