Shazer Becomes 28th Red Fox to Score 1,000 Points

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's basketball team fell to the Drexel Dragons 51-36 on Wednesday night at McCann Arena.
 

Recap

QTR 1

  • The Dragons jumped out to an early 6-0 lead forcing Marist to call a timeout at the 6:52 mark.
  • Zaria Shazer got the offense going for Marist as she scored the first six points for the Red Foxes. Her jumper at the 3:57 mark cut the Drexel lead to 11-6.
  • A pair of free throws from Catie Cunningham with two seconds left ended a nearly four minute long scoring drought for Marist. Drexel led 16-8 to after one.

QTR 2 

  • A Cunningham layup off a great pass from Morgan Lee ended a three-and-a-half minute scoring drought for Marist and made it 20-12 with 4:34 remaining in the half. 
  • Shazer ended a four-and-a-half minute scoring drought for the Red Foxes with a layup at the buzzer.
  • The Dragons held a 25-14 lead at halftime. Marist shot just 6-for-27 (22%) in the first half.

QTR 3

  • Morgan Lee opened the third quarter with Marist's first three-pointer of the night to make it 25-17.
  • The Red Foxes made four straight field goals capped off by a Lexie Tarul three-pointer to get within one possession at 29-26 with 3:55 left in the third. 
  • Drexel led 35-32 after three. Marist ended the third quarter making six of their last seven field goal attempts.

QTR 4

  • The Dragons scored four quick points in the first 1:12 of the fourth, pushing the lead to 39-32 and forcing a Marist timeout. 
  • Drexel took advantage of a Marist field goal drought that lasted over six minutes as they pushed the lead to 49-36 with 2:30 left in the game.
  • The Dragons won it 51-36.
Stats
  • Shazer led the Red Foxes in points and rebounds with 16 & 5.
  • Tarul and Croker contributed with five points each.
  • Marist shot just .286 (14-for-49) overall and .200 (2-for-10) from deep.
