Women's Lacrosse Falls to Bucknell

The Red Foxes Fall Short in Home-Opener

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's lacrosse team dropped their first game of the season against the Bucknell Bison, 17-12, on Saturday afternoon at Tenney Stadium.
 
Summary:
  • Bucknell took an early lead, scoring five goals in the opening quarter.
  • Emily Baird used a free-position shot to complete her hat-trick and increase the Bison lead to 6-0 at the 13:59 mark in the second quarter. Bucknell added two more goals less than five minutes later.
  • Jamie McPherson found the back of the net to get the Red Foxes on the board and make it 8-1 with 7:26 remaining in the second.
  • The Bison responded with another free-position goal at the 5:47 mark.
  • With 4:39 to go before the half, Kerri Gutenberger scored a free-position goal to make it 9-2.
  • One minute later Bucknell responded with a free-position goal.
  • Olivia Arntsen scored a goal for the Red Foxes with 2:39 remaining, but the Bison struck back with a goal of their own 35 seconds later.
  • Delaney Hayes found the back of the net on a free-position shot to make it 11-4 going into halftime.
  • The Bison got the scoring started in the second half, making it 12-4 with 6:22 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Bucknell added another goal at the 4:11 mark.
  • Kelly Trotta scored the first Marist goal in the second half at 3:38 to make it 13-5.
  • Less than 40 seconds later the Red Foxes struck again as Gutenberger scored her second goal of the game and Trotta picked up her second assist.
  • Marist's offensive momentum continued as Trotta found the back of the net again, making it 13-7 with 1:16 remaining in the third.
  • The Bison extended their lead to 14-7 at the 14:15 mark in the fourth quarter.
  • Maddie Schrader responded with a Red Fox goal at 12:45 to cut into the defecit.
  • Gutenberger completed her hat-trick to make it 14-9 with 11:32 remaining in the game.
  • After a Bucknell foul led to a women-up situation for Marist, Alana Tavares secured a ground ball pickup and fired a shot into the back of the net.
  • The Bucknell offense responded with two goals in three minutes, making it 16-10 with 7:41 remaining.
  • Trotta completed her hat-trick 30 seconds later to get Marist within five.
  • Gutenberger scored her fourth goal of the game to make it 16-12 with 5:54 to go.
  • The Bison added another goal at 3:36 to extend their lead back to five.
