Women’s Basketball Travels to Fairfield

Red Foxes Look to Rebound from Saturday’s Loss

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team will play at Fairfield this Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.  This will be the second time the two teams meet this season for a MAAC regular season match.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes were defeated by the Siena Saints 77-49 this past Saturday.
  • Both teams started the game off slow, while Marist was up 3-0 early their lead would be short-lived.
  • Siena ended the quarter on a 15-0 run, where the Red Foxes struggled mightily on both ends of the court.
  • The second quarter proved to be much of the same, Siena went on a 16-3 run, and the Red Foxes only made a field goal at 2:50 into the second quarter.
  • However, the Red Foxes would finally respond as they finished the quarter on a 10-0 run, but Siena was still up 33-16 at the half.
  • The Siena Saints continued to dominate in the third quarter, Marist didn't make a two-point field goal till there was 4:33 left in the third quarter.
  • Despite a late-game surge from Kiara Fisher, the Red Foxes could not pull off the miracle comeback as Siena took this one easily by a final score of 77-49.
  • Fisher led the Red Foxes in scoring with 18 points shooting 6 for 13 from the field,  2 for 5 from the three-point line, and 4 for 6 from the free-throw line.
  • Valencia Fontelle-Posson led the Saints in scoring with 17 points shooting 5 for 6 from the field, 3 for 3 from beyond the arc, and 4 for 4 from the free throw line.
  • Marist shot 23% from the field 14 for 61, 23.8% from three 5 for 21, and 69.6% from the free throw line 16-23.
  • Siena shot 43.5% from the field 30 for 69, 37.5% from the three-point line 9 for 24, and 8 for 9 from the free throw line 88.9%.
  • Marist shot 3 for 26 from the field in the first half (11.5%) all three have been three-pointers, and Siena shot 13 for 36 (36.1%).
     
ABOUT FAIRFIELD
  • Earlier this season, the two teams met and the Stags took down the Red Foxes by a score of 43-34.
  • Marist kept the score difference within 3 points for the first three quarters, however the Stags outscored the Red Foxes 15-9 in the final quarter.
  • Kiara Fisher led the Red Foxes with 10 points in this matchup (Jan. 12)
  • Fairfield is ranked fifth in the MAAC standings.
  • The Stags are currently 13-13 overall and 9-8 in MAAC play.
  • Fairfield's Callie Cavanaugh still leads the MAAC in total points with 411 points this season.
UP NEXT
  • Giorgis' final home game as the Red Foxes' head coach will be on Saturday against Niagara.
  • The game is set for a 2 p.m. tip, with a ceremony to follow afterward.
