HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Marist softball team split its first day of the Bank of Hawaii Invitational, which included a victory against the hosts.

The Red Foxes dropped their first game to Seattle by a score of 3-1, but then came back for a 3-2 victory Hawaii in game two. It was Marist's first win over Hawaii in six tries in program history.

- Katie Walling drew a bases-loaded walk to get Seattle on the board first in the top of the second.
- Marist tied the game in the bottom of the third. Sam Freeland reached on a two-out error, and scored from first on a double by Maddie Pleasants.
- Walling homered in the fourth to put Seattle up 2-1.
- Olivia Viggiano's RBI single with two outs in the sixth gave Seattle a 3-1 lead.
- Marist loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but was unable to score.
- Pleasants finished with two hits.
- Calista Phippen pitched a complete game with two strikeouts for the Red Foxes. One of the runs she permitted was unearned.
- Stefanie Madrigal went the distance for Seattle with four strikeouts.

- Haley Johnson's two-out double in the first brought home Xiao Gin with the game's first run.
- In the top of the fifth, Shea Walsh doubled with one out and advanced to third on an infield single by Sam Freeland. Walsh scored on an RBI by Maddie Pleasants to tie the score at one. Freeland then came home on a single by Haley Ahr, which gave Marist a 2-1 lead.
- Ronni Howard scored on an error in the sixth to give Marist a 3-1 advantage.
- Izabella Martinez's RBI single cut Hawaii's deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
- Pleasants retired Hawaii in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory. She pitched a four-hitter and struck out seven.
- Freeland was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

- Marist (2-5) continues play at the Bank of Hawaii Invitational with two games on Saturday.
- The Red Foxes will face St. Bonaventure at 5:30 p.m. Eastern, followed by Hawaii at 10 p.m.
