Baseball Wins Rubber Match Against Siena

Red Foxes Clinch First MAAC Series Win Of The Season

LOUDONVILLE, New York- The Marist baseball team won its first series of the 2023 season against MAAC rival Siena, Sunday afternoon. The Red Foxes scored six runs in the seventh and eighth inning to top the Saints 8-1.

 
Summary
  • In the bottom-half of the first inning, Siena scored a run on three hits which took the early lead 1-0. Johnny Decker made a diving catch in center field to save a run for the Red Foxes.
  • In the second inning, Bayram Hot singled with one out to right field for the Red Foxes. The Red Foxes offensive momentum stopped by a double play in the inning.
  • Zane Kmietek pitched a scoreless second inning for the Red Foxes.
  • In the fourth inning, Dylan Hoy reached second base on a throwing error with no outs for the Red Foxes. Hoy then advanced to third on a Niko Amory sacrifice fly with two outs in the inning. Niko Amory moved Hoy to third on a second consecutive sacrifice fly. Justin Kapuscinski brought home Hoy on his second RBI single of the game and gave the Red Foxes a 2-1 lead.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Jack Keenan left two Siena baserunners stranded and pitched a scoreless inning for the Red Foxes.
  • To start the seventh inning, Ethan Conrad singled to left field. Later in the inning, Marco Ali singled which put Conrad in scoring position with one out for the Red Foxes. Colin Mackle followed Ali with a single and loaded the bases with one out. Dylan Hoy brought home two with a single through the middle infield and gave the Red Foxes a 4-1 lead.
  • With one out in the eighth inning, Bayram Hot recorded his third hit of the day with a single to right field. Ethan Conrad hit an infield single and moved Hot to third base with one out in the inning. Bayram Hot scored on a wild pitch in Colin Mackle's at bat which extended the Red Foxes lead to 5-1. Colin Mackle cleared the bases with a three-run home run and put the Red Foxes ahead 8-1.
  • The Red Foxes defeated the Saints 8-1.
