Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Iona on Friday

Kapuscinski and Hoy Both Homer in Game 2

POUHGKEEPSIE, NY - The Marist baseball team split a rare doubleheader against the Iona Gaels due to inclement weather. The Red Foxes scored four runs in the first inning of the game one loss, while scoring two runs in the fifth in game two, securing the win. 
 

Game One Summary
  • The Red Foxes jumped out to an early 4-0 lead at the end of the first inning. The Red Foxes scored courtesy of a Marco Ali single and sacrifice groundouts.
  •  In the third inning, Iona struck back with three runs of their own, cutting into the Red Foxes lead 4-3.
  • Iona scored one run in the fourth inning which tied the game at four apiece.
  • Bayram Hot gave the Red Foxes the lead back in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run single which brought home Dylan Hoy and Colin Mackle. Niko Amory recorded a sacrifice fly which extended the Red Foxes lead 7-4.
  • The Gaels went on to score nine unanswered runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
  • The Red Foxes dropped game one 13-7.

Game Two Summary
  • Game two saw Marist take a quick 1-0 lead as Justin Kapuscinski belted a ball to the freeway in the second inning.
  • The third inning saw Bayram Hot get on base due to a hit by pitch, but the Red Foxes could not capitalize and left the inning scoreless. 
  • Dylan Hoy would crush a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, extending the lead to 3-0. 
  • Iona tallied hits by Nick Forney in the second inning, and Jim Pasquale in the sixth inning, which would bring in one run.
  • Marist would fire back in the sixth as Nicholas Butler laid down a sacrifice bunt to bring Kapuscinski in to score. 
  • Starting pitcher Drake Quinn had himself a day on the mound, striking out nine batters before being replaced by Jack Bowery in the seventh inning.
  • Marist would then add one more insurance in the eighth inning as Kapuscinski scored on a wild pitcher thrown by Iona pitcher Alex Hunt. 
  • The Red Foxes would hold on to win 5-1. 
 
Notable Statistics
  • Justin Kapuscinski and Marco Ali led the second game in hits with two.
  • Marco Ali went 3-5 with a run batted in during game one.
  • Brian Hart went 2-4 with two RBIs in game one against the Gaels.   
  • Kapuscinski also led game with three two runs scored. 
  • Dylan Hoy led game two in RBIs with two. 
  • Drake Quinn struck out nine batters in six innings pitched in game two. 
  • The Red Foxes totaled six hits on route to five runs in game two.
  • The Gaels tallied five hits with only one run scored in game two.
