Volleyball Comes up Short in Knoxville

Sasha van der Merwe was named to the All-Tournament Team

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – The Marist volleyball team came up short on day two of the Tennessee Classic as the Red Foxes fell to the host Tennessee Lady Volunteers in three sets.
 
Recap
  • The Red Foxes and Volunteers battled early in set one for the lead as Sasha van der Merwe and Gabriella Heimbauer were able to collect early kills for Marist.
  • The Volunteers were able to go on multiple scoring runs to help gain control of the set as they closed out set one 25-15.
  • In set two Marist and Tennessee juggled back and forth early for the lead once again.
  • The Red Foxes were aided by Emi Yakushev and Claire Lewis as they were able to pick up early kills in the set for the Red Foxes.
  • The Lady Volunteers were able to find a groove as they were able to go on a 20-9 scoring run to close out set two with a score of 25-13.
  • The Red Foxes and Lady Volunteers kicked off set three battling for the first points on the board; however, Tennessee was able to get hot early and gain control of the set.
  • Marist was aided by multiple kills by newcomer Emi Yakushev and Gabriella Heimbauer later in the set to help cut down the UT lead. However, the Lady Volunteers were able to put away set three by a score of 25-12 to close out the match.
