POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Jason Myers has enjoyed a considerable amount of success and earned multiple accolades since his NFL journey started in 2015.
As the 2023 season draws closer, Myers can add another line to his impressive resume: team captain.
Myers is headed into his ninth NFL season and fifth with the Seahawks. On Wednesday, he was named captain for the first time. He joins Tyler Lockett, Geno Smith, Bobby Wagner, Quandre Diggs, and Nick Bellore as captains this season.
The Seahawks open the 2023 season at home against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. Eastern.
Last season, Myers earned the second Pro Bowl selection of his career. He led the NFL in scoring with 143 points, converted 34 of his 37 field goal attempts, was successful on 42 out of 43 extra point tries, and had 54 touchbacks on kickoffs. He was named First Team All-Pro by the NFL Players' Association.
Following the season, Myers signed his second multiyear contract with the Seahawks. He signed his first contract with Seattle in the spring of 2019.
Myers' NFL journey began with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015. He joined the New York Jets in 2018, where he earned his first Pro Bowl selection and set the team record for field goals in a game with seven.
Myers is a 2013 Marist graduate who played football for the Red Foxes from 2009-12. He was the Red Foxes' all-time leading scorer among placekickers at the time of his graduation. His 49-yard field goal at Davidson in 2011 remains tied for the longest in program history.
