Georgetown Tops Marist in Season Opener

Shannon Scores TD, Tops 100 Yards in Kickoff Returns

GEORGETOWN, DC – The Marist football team was defeated in its season opener at Georgetown by a score of 49-7 in a non-league game on Saturday.
 
Summary
  • Joshua Stakely's 42-yard touchdown run opened the scoring, as Georgetown took a 7-0 lead with 11:01 left in the first quarter.
  • Tristan Shannon's three-yard touchdown run on third-and-goal plus Chase Gardi's PAT tied the score at seven with exactly five minutes left in the first quarter. The drive covered 13 plays and 64 yards in 5:52.
  • Georgetown took the lead back on a two-yard touchdown run by Naieem Kearney with 1:50 let in the first quarter.
  • Tyler Knoop's 13-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Grimes put Georgetown up 21-7 with 1:34 remaining in the second quarter. That remained the score at halftime.
  • The Hoyas added a pair of touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters to account for the final margin.

  • Amin Woods led the Red Foxes with 63 rushing yards on 16 carries.
  • Matt Stianche and Jake Ciolinio had a team-high three receptions, with Stianche having a team-high 28 receiving yards.
  • In addition to scoring the Red Foxes' touchdown, Shannon had 151 yards on six kickoff returns, which is the second-highest single-game yardage total in program history.
  • Mike Arrington led the Red Foxes with seven tackles.
  • Georgetown held a 401-202 edge in total yards.
 
Notes
  • Shannon's touchdown was the second of his career. His first came against Dayton last season.
  • This was the 24th all-time meeting between Marist and Georgetown. The total of 24 meetings is the second most of any opponent for the Red Foxes, trailing only Iona (28).
  • This is the second straight season Marist opened the season at Georgetown.
