LOS ANGELES, California - The Marist volleyball team came up short on its first night on the West Coast as the Red Foxes fell to the Loyola Marymount University Lions in three sets.

• The Red Foxes and Lions battled early for the first points on the board, however, LMU was able to get hot early and gain control of the set.
• The Lions jumped out to a 13-3 lead and never looked back, going on to win 25-8.
• In set two, LMU kept its foot on the pedal holding Marist to single digits once again as they won 25-9.
• After Marist got the first point of set three, LMU used an 11-1 run to give themselves a nine point lead before the Red Foxes called a timeout.
• Marist continued to battle, but wouldn't get within seven points the rest of the way as the Lions went on to take set three by a score of 25-12.

• Gabriella Heimbauer led the Red Foxes with six kills, followed by Sasha van der Merwe with four.
• Katherine Thompson led the team with eight digs. Heimbauer added six digs.
• Jordan Curran and Kaitlyn Owens each had five assists. 
• LMU had a 10-0 advantage in blocks.

• The Red Foxes will stay in California to play three matches the next three days in the Trojan Invitational, hosted by USC. All matches in the Trojan Invitational can be seen on Pac-12 TV.

  • Marist will face San Diego on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

  • The Red Foxes take on USC on Saturday at 4 p.m. Eastern.

  • Marist closes out tournament play against UC Davis on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
