Marist Student-Atheletes Close Out a Successful 2023 Fall Semester

Red Foxes Look to Carry Their Strong Academic Performance into 2024

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist student-athletes put in an inspired academic performance during the 2023 fall semester.
 
Highlights
  • The department's grade-point average for this past semester was 3.35.
  • The department's cumulative grade-point average now stands at 3.375.
  • A total of 53 student-athletes had a perfect 4.0 GPA.
  • Of Marist's 636 student-athletes, 470 (74 percent) had at least a 3.0 GPA, while 314 (49 percent) had at least a 3.5.
  • Of Marist's 23 Division I programs, 22 had a team GPA of at least 3.0 in the Fall 2023 semester.
  • The top overall team GPA went to softball with 3.710.
  • The top overall men's team GPA went to men's cross country with 3.611.
  • In addition to softball and men's cross country, the teams with GPA's over 3.5 were: volleyball (3.642), women's basketball (3.626), women's tennis (3.610), women's lacrosse (3.595), women's soccer (3.589), women's track (3.589), women's cross country (3.584) and men's tennis (3.536).
  • Volleyball and women's cross country led the MAAC in selections to the conference's all-academic team.
  • The following student-athletes were named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District:
    • Women's Soccer: Olivia Lindsay, Samantha Sturno, Amanda Calderelli, Samantha Calderelli, Grace Hotalling, and Bella Lazzaro.
    • Volleyball: Sasha van der Merwe, Jordan Newblatt, Claire Lewis, and Vanessa Zolg
    • Football: Chris Leonardo, Brandon Lysick, Justin Iaccio, Sean Coverdale, and Christian Pritzlaff.
  • Gabriel Rodriguez (men's cross country/track), Claire Lewis(volleyball) and Isaiah Brickner (men's basketball) were honored this past semester as MAAC Student-Athlete of the Week.
