Marist Football Faces San Diego on West Coast

Red Foxes Making First Trip to California Since 2019

SAN DIEGO, California – The Marist football team will face San Diego in a Pioneer Football League game on Saturday in California. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. Eastern.
 
HOW TO FOLLOW
  • Geoff Brault (play-by-play) and Mike Ferraro (analyst) will have the call on the Red Fox Network and Varsity Network app.
  • The pre-game show starts at 4:45.
  • Jack Cronin (play-by-play) and Braden Surprenant (analyst) will have the call on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Marist fell at home to St. Thomas, 39-32, last Saturday.
  • The Red Foxes rebounded from a 15-0 first quarter deficit to take the lead in the second quarter.
  • Sonny Mannino tied Marist's single-game program record with five touchdown passes. Mannino threw for 211 yards.
  • Gannon McCorkle and Braylen Ricks each had two TFLs and a sack.
 
SEASON STATS
  • Marist has had two games this season with at least 10 different pass catchers. At Bucknell, 12 Red Foxes caught passes. Against St. Thomas, a season-high 13 Red Foxes had receptions.
  • Against St. Thomas, Marist set season highs for points scored (32), number of receivers (13), tackles for loss (8), rushing yards (117), and touchdowns (5).
  • Jackson Conners-McCarthy leads the Red Foxes with 30 receptions. That total ranks second in the PFL, trailing only San Diego's Ja'seem Reed.
  • Sonny Mannino has a 9-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio in his three starts this season.
  • Gannon McCorkle leads Marist with four tackles for loss this season. Three have come in the last two weeks.
 
MARIST IN THE PFL
  • Marist is 58-57 all-time in PFL play, having joined the league in 2009. Marist is 9-13 in September, 32-23 in October, 17-20 in November, and 0-1 in December.
  • Marist is 28-31 at home, and 30-26 on the road in PFL play.
  • Marist won a share of the PFL championship in 2013.
 
ABOUT SAN DIEGO
  • The Toreros are coming off a bye week, and are 1-1 in PFL play.
  • After falling to Drake on the final play of the game, San Diego earned a comeback victory in overtime against Presbyterian.
  • San Diego was picked to finish fifth in the PFL Preseason Poll, with three Toreros (DL Malachi Cooper, LB Chase Lyons, and DB Eric Haney) earning Preseason All-PFL honors.
  • Head coach Brandon Moore is in his second season at the helm.
 
HISTORY VS. SAN DIEGO
  • This is the 17th all-time meeting between the Red Foxes and Toreros.
  • This is Marist's first trip to San Diego since 2019.
  • This is Marist's 11th trip to San DIego all-time. Four of these occurred prior to the Red Foxes joining the PFL (2003, 2005, 2007, 2008).
