POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist volleyball team was defeated 3-1 by Niagara in the final match of the 2024 season.
Sarah Bumstead led the Red Foxes in points with 16.5, collecting 13 kills, three aces and two digs. Setting career-highs in kills, points and aces.
Taylor Miller had the most kills for Marist with 14.
CC Potter-Pessoa tallied 15 digs, four assists and two aces.

The first frame got off to a contested start, with both teams trying to push the advantage. Marist would then storm ahead to a 7-3 lead, before the Purple Eagles would rally back to within a point at 7-6. The Red Foxes would then string together a five-point rally to put themselves up 12-6. After the media timeout, the Purple Eagles would attempt to gain some traction on the Red Foxes, but the home team would go on to take the next six points.
The Red Foxes would go on to take the set 25-23
The second set got off to a similar start to the first, with both teams always staying within at least two points of each other. This would change after a strong run from Marist would put the Red Foxes up four with the scoreline sitting at 9-4. The Purple Eagles would then surge to put the score within one point at 11-10. Niagara would finally be able to tie things up at 15-15, but the Red Foxes would immediately regain the lead.
With the score knotted up at 19-19, the Purple Eagles would take six of the next seven points to secure the second frame 25-20.
After dropping the first point, the Red Foxes would take the next two points to take an early lead. The scoreline would not deviate much over the next few points, with each team trading blows. With the score at 14-12 in favor of Marist, the Purple Eagles would begin to press the advantage, taking 11 of the next 12 points to put themselves up 23-15.
Though the Red Foxes would take five of the next six points, it would not be enough to stave off the Purple Eagles from taking the set 25-20.
The Purple Eagles would get off to a strong start in the fourth set, taking the first three points. Niagara would then take a commanding six-point lead with the scoreline at 10-4. They would continue to dominate the third set, extending the lead to as much as 10 points with the score at 20-10.
