Men’s Basketball Opens Season at Harvard

Red Foxes, Crimson Tip Off Monday at 5 p.m.

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team opens is 64th season of play, and 44th as a Division I program, on Monday evening. The Red Foxes face Ivy League for Harvard on the road, with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
On the Air
  • The game will be carried on the Red Fox Network and Varsity Network app with Dean Darling (play-by-play) and Steve Eggink (analyst) on the call. The pre-game show will start at 4:45.
  • For in-game updates, follow us on X - @MaristMBB.
  • The game will be shown live on ESPN+ with Joe Weil (play-by-play), Tyler Davey (analyst), and Steve Goldberg (sideline) on the call.
 
Openers
  • In its Division I history, Marist is 18-25 in season openers, including a 4-2 record under head coach John Dunne.  Marist dropped 10 straight season openers from 2009-18, but has won four of its last five.
  • Marist's Nov. 4 season opener ties its earliest in program history. The previous earliest date was Nov. 6 (2018 & 2023).
 
On the Road Again
  • Marist is opening the season on the road for the 15th time in the last 20 years.
  • Marist will play its first two games on the road this season before its home opener against Army West Point on Nov. 15. The Red Foxes will not play three straight road games at any point this year.
 
Preseason Picks
  • Marist was picked second in the MAAC Preseason Poll, its highest projection since the 2006-07 season (picked first, finished first). This comes off a season in which Marist had its highest win total (18) in 16 years and its best seed in the MAAC Championships (third) in 17 years.
  • Josh Pascarelli (First Team) and Jadin Collins-Roberts (Second Team) gave Marist two Preseason All-MAAC selections for the first time since 2014-15 (Chavaughn Lewis, Khallid Hart). Pascarelli's gave Marist a Preseason First Team All-MAAC selection for the first time since 2016-17 (Khallid Hart).

Who's New
  • Marist has eight new players this year, with four transfers and four freshmen.
  • The transfers are Caleb Mackrey (junior, last two years at Hillsborough Community College); Travis Roberts (junior, last two years at Jacksonville State); Martin Kawa (junior, last two years at Richard Bland College); and Elijah Lewis (junior, last two years at Adelphi).
  • Parby Kabamba and Tarik Watson join the team as scholarship freshmen. Jagger Bascombe and Antoni Vlogianitis join as preferred walk-ons.
  • Dan Bozzelli joins the staff as an assistant coach. Bozzelli most recently served as head coach of SUNY Purchase for four seasons.
 
Non-Conference Schedule
  • Marist has three America East teams on the schedule, all at home: New Hampshire (Nov. 23, picked ninth); UMBC (Dec. 21, picked fifth); and Binghamton (Dec. 29, picked sixth).
  • Marist faces two Ivy League teams: Harvard (Nov. 4, road, picked sixth) and Dartmouth (Nov. 19, home, picked eighth).
  • The Red Foxes face two Patriot League foes: Army West Point (Nov. 15, home, picked seventh) and Lehigh (Nov. 30, road, picked fifth).
  • Marist faces one opponent apiece from the Atlantic 10 (Richmond, Nov. 9, road, picked seventh) and CAA (Stony Brook, Dec. 17, road, picked ninth).
 
About Harvard
  • Harvard finished last season 14-13 overall and 5-9 in the Ivy League with a 9-5 home record.
  • The Crimson were picked to finish sixth in this year's Ivy League Preseason Poll.
  • Head coach Tommy Amaker is in his 18th season, and he has led Harvard to four NCAA Tournament appearances and seven 20-win seasons.
 
History vs. Harvard
  • Marist is 2-0 against Harvard all-time. This is the first meeting between the teams - and Marist's first trip to Harvard - since an 87-82 win on Nov. 30, 1999.
  • In head coach John Dunne's tenure, Marist is 5-4 against the Ivy League (2-0 vs. Dartmouth, 3-1 vs. Columbia, 0-1 vs. Brown, 0-2 vs. Princeton).

  • Marist heads back to the road to face Richmond on Saturday, Nov. 9.
