Red Foxes Welcome Cornell to Poughkeepsie for Home Opener

Women's Basketball Hosts Big Red Inside McCann Sunday at 2 PM

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Marist women's basketball returns to Poughkeepsie for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon as the Red Foxes play host to Cornell in the 2024-25 home opener. Tip-off from McCann Arena is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Redshirt junior Lexie Tarul scored a career-best 17 points to lead the Marist women's basketball team, but it wasn't enough as Drexel downed the Red Foxes, 64-53, in the 2024-25 season-opener inside the Daskalakis Athletic Center Thursday evening.
  • Morgan Lee added 16 points, four rebounds, and a career-high four assists.
MARVELOUS MORGAN
  • Junior Morgan Lee returns for her junior campaign in 2024-25.
  • Lee opened the season with 16 points, four rebounds and a career-high four assists against Drexel on Nov. 7.
  • Last season Lee averaged 6.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.
  • Lee's 38 blocks and 1.2 blocks per game was tops on the team and ranked fourth in the MAAC in both categories.
  • She reached double-figure point totals in four of her last eight games to close the 2023-24 campaign.
  • She tallied career-high totals of 20 points in two of Marist's last three games of the season.
LIGHTS OUT LEXIE
  • Redshirt junior Lexie Tarul returns for her second year with the Red Foxes.
  • Tarul scored a career-high 17 points in the opener against Drexel on Nov. 7, knocking down three three-pointers in the process.
  • Last season, Tarul led the team with 52 made three-pointers.
  • Tarul returns as Marist's leading scorer from a season ago at 7.3 points per game.
  • Tarul made a three-point field goal in 27 of her 31 appearances last season.
  • She made three or more three-pointers in seven games.
 
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
  • Cornell is led by Emily Garner, who is in her first season at the helm of the program.
  • Cornell was picked to finish seventh in the Ivy League Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Cornell is 1-1 on the season entering Sunday's contest against the Red Foxes.
  • The Big Red downed Army West Point, 60-54, on the road in its opener this past Monday.
  • Cornell then came up short on the road at Rutgers, 72-61, in its last time out on Nov. 7.
  • Emily Pape leads Cornell with 15.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, while Clarke Jackson is averaging 13.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

  • Sunday's contest against Cornell will mark Marist's 10th contest against the Big Red.
